This is the story of two mischievous monkeys named Morley and Milley. They love adventures! Their home is far away in Africa.
They have traveled many miles and explored many countries. Now they have arrived in Canada, quite precisely in the lovely city of Burlington which is located in the large province of hi Ontario in Central Canada. They were eager to visit their Uncle John and Aunt Bonnie who had invited them to stay for a little rest and relaxation. After a long journey, putting their feet up sounded like a very appealing idea!
The train took Morley and Milley right into Burlington where Uncle John picked them up from the station and drove them straight to Glen Acres Court where he lived. Aunt Bonnie was waiting with hugs and mugs of hot chocolate. Leaving their shoes on the floor by the door they clambered up into a comfy chair and put up their feet. Ahhhh what a treat!
Milley sighed. “I’m exhausted!” she said. Morley agreed as he shrugged off his knapsack and then helped Milley to get hers off as well. By the time they had everything put away, Morley exclaimed, “I sure am getting warm!” “Well then, let’s take off our clothes and relax,” replied Milley. And so they did. Though Aunt Bon and Uncle John looked a bit surprised, the monkeys didn’t bat an eye because they were very used to being without their clothes in the hot country of Africa.
And so they relaxed and shared stories with Uncle John and Aunt Bon about how they spent all their money where it was sunny and warm. They told about traveling on trains and planes, in the snow and the rain. Morley said, “The climate is so different everywhere we go. Millie sighed and looked outside, “And here it is snow!”
They both climbed up onto the top of the chair where they could see the neighbor across the street shoveling his driveway with a huge snow blower.
They went to sit with Auntie Bonnie and together they watched as she knit a sweater for Honey Bear. Honey Bear was also coming for a visit. She was going to be there the very next day with some of her friends to visit Morley and Millie. The monkeys were excited!
Uncle John and Auntie Bonnie had many interesting books, so the monkeys relaxed and played “I Spy” and laughed till they cried.
As they began to read another book, suddenly Millie shivered. ”I’m cold!” she quivered. “Me too,” said Morley as he quit reading the story.
So they went to sit by the fire to warm up. This reminded them that they missed the hot weather in the African jungles where they came from. After lounging by the fire awhile they started feeling toasty warm again. Before long, Morley’s tummy suddenly said, “Grooowwl”. “Rumble, mumble!” replied Millie’s tummy. It sounds like your tummy is agreeing with my tummy!” said Millie. Looking at each other they both laughed together and said, “I think we are having a snack attack,” “Let’s go ask Aunty Bonnie for something to eat,” said Morley.
So off they went and jumped right up onto the kitchen counter as Aunt Bon prepared something yummy for their tummy. It was getting late and after they ate, they became sleepy. Aunty Bonnie said, “I think it’s time for bed!”
Helena was visiting from Ottawa. She was really excited when she heard that Morley and Millie were coming from Africa, so she had begged her mommy and daddy, “Please can I have a sleepover at Nana’s house, pllllease?” Of course her parents said yes.
Helena was already tucked into bed when Morley and Millie arrived but she moved over as they snuggled in beside her. They were all snug as a bug in a rug! They chatted for awhile and Millie chuckled as Helena pretended to be a little baby sucking on a bottle. Soon they were all fast asleep and dreaming of tomorrow when Honey Bear and all their friends were coming for a visit.
